Carmel Jud, Founder and President - Felton, California
Carmel Jud is the visionary founder and executive director of Rising International. Her entrepreneurial passion began at age 19 when she launched Carmel Jud Creative Group (CJCG), a San Francisco Bay Area award-winning advertising production and market research firm specializing in broadcast media. Carmel lead CJCG from a start-up to working with clients such as AT&T, American Red Cross, Books On Tape, Intuit, Macy’s, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Microsoft, Naomi Campbell Fragrance, Proflowers.com, and Symantec Software. In 2002, drawing upon her extensive background in marketing and management, Carmel launched Rising International. Rising International is the first non-profit to use the home party business model to contribute to solving world poverty. Carmel's innovative idea for alleviating poverty using the direct sales model has been featured in the press both locally and internationally including Huffington Post’s Greatest Person of the Day. She is also one the proud recipients of 50/50 Leadership’s 2012 Woman of the World award.
Judy Brose, Chairperson of the Board - Watsonville, California
Judy Brose is in the top one percent of all Century 21 real estate agents nationwide. She has also served as an active member of the Santa Cruz Association of Realtors. She is a volunteer and past board member of the Harvest Food Bank. Prior to her realty work, Judy was a school teacher for 7 years in the Santa Cruz and Soquel School Districts in Santa Cruz County, California. She has a BA degree in Liberal Studies from San Jose State University and a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from the same university.
Ron Dutt, Board Member and CFO - Carmel, California
Ron Dutt has enjoyed an extensive and impressive career in multiple businesses spanning a career of nearly 30 years. Most recently, Ron was the Executive Vice President (EVP) and CFO of Sola International, a NYSE listed Company based in San Diego with revenues approaching $700 million. Prior to his tenure at Sola, Ron has also served as Senior Vice President (SVP) and CFO of DHL Americas, a $2 Billion subsidiary of DHL worldwide; SVP of Financial Planning & Analysis for Visa International; and in various roles of increasing responsibility over a nearly 20 year career at the Ford Motor Company. Ron holds both a BS Degree from the University of North Carolina an MBA from the University of Washington, and is a graduate of the Navy’s Officer Candidate School where he served as a Lieutenant and Line Officer.
Alan Christenson, Vice Chairperson of the Board / Secretary - Aptos, California
Alan Christenson has worked for local governments for over forty years in the field of human resources. He is the former President of the International Association of Public Management – Human Resources. Alan serves as an officer of Janus of Santa Cruz, a drug and alcohol treatment program for Santa Cruz County. He has a BA in Government and a Masters in Public Administration, both from George Washington University.
Nadia Hashimi spearheaded Rising’s first artisan project in 2003, helping Afghan widows to market their skills as doll makers. While working as an integral member of CARE International in Afghanistan, Nadia was awarded a prestigious scholarship to attend Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS). While studying in Monterey, she founded the Muslim Students Association and due to her academic success her scholarship was extended. Nadia received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international policy studies, becoming the first Afghan woman to receive a master’s degree after the Taliban regime.
Sushmita Vij, Board Member - Palo Alto, Calfornia
Sush Vij architects growth strategies for online products and leads teams to execute releases and create exponential user and advertising revenue growth. From 2004 - 2009, Sush headed up product management and planning at www.msn.com and MSN video properties, including www.video.msn.com. Prior to Microsoft, Sush was a Senior Engagement Manager at Deloitte Consulting where her deep vertical experience in product strategy for the mobile industry generated significant mobile application results. Recently, Sush took a break from technology and along with her partners managed and sold the popular restaurant, Junnoon to a successful chain of Indian restaurants. Sush is a fusion Indian cook, who was featured on the Sony Entertainment Network's Indian life-style channel. She serves on the Board of Directors of Hand in Hand Parenting. She is also an experienced jungle expeditioner and an active collector of Native American art.
